Tokyo stars shine in the Mas Neuf sky
Restaurant L'Osier *** in Tokyo

Three Mas Neuf wines have just been chosen by the very prestigious (3*
Michelin, 18/20 Gayot guide) Tokyo restaurant, l’Osier, following
their presentation during January. The chef, Bruno Menard and the head
sommelier Toshifumi NAKAMOTO selected Compostelle Blanc 2006, Mourvache
2005 et Armonio 2004.
Tokyo has the highest concentration of starred restaurants
in the world, which is entirely justified by the rigorous choice of
local produce of the highest quality, and the excellent workmanship
of professionals there, whether cooking regional or European food.
We are even more gratified by the honour accorded us because,
during our previous visit in 2006 we were lucky enough to have the pleasure
of experiencing the panache of the chef who produced a menu devoted
to the white truffle. To accompany this, Nakamoto San chose an absolutely
stunning flight of wines in complete freedom, which included a very
rare white Musigny, a Ch Rayas ‘90 and a ‘67 Yquem.
Our thanks to them, and long life to this jewel, which
enjoys the sponsorship of the Shiseido group, its owners.

Mas Neuf at the French Blind Tasting Championship

The third contest of French Blind tasting championship
was held within the famous old cellars of Vignerons de Vouvray recently,
and Philippe de Cantenac, one of the talented journalists of Revue des
Vins de France, was the master of ceremony of this equally serious and
fun gathering.
He honoured us by choosing Mas Neuf Tradition Red 2005
to be included in this blind tasting, usually comprising around 10 wines,
each team of 2 having to guess grape variety, region, vintage, producer
and cuvee if possible !
When analysing the results, we find a very interesting
mix of answers, which to my opinion give a good insight on the style
of our wine in 2005 :
More than 13 teams located it... in the Loire vallley,
with answers such as Joguet, Amirault, Baudry or Jacky Blot. Even if
the location of the tasting event could have influenced the teams, it
is not the first time that I encounter similarities of texture between
ripe cabernet francs and syrah/mourvedre blends as well as very similar
spicy aromas.
A good number of contestants situated the wine in Northern
Rhône Valley, with prestigious names such as Combier, Graillot
or Le Colombier, with also several answers in Saint Joseph. The 2005
syrah has really shown its very surprising fresh texture on that vintage.
Last, but not least, several answers nearer to home, Cairanne
of Marcel Richaud, but also several Languedoc and also Lirac, but not
once Costières de Nîmes.
We wish to thank Philippe de Cantenac for bringing in
one of our wines and to allow us to discover the results of tasting.

Our usual wine presentation in Paris will take place
on the 10th of December at 19h45 in “la Maison des Agros”,
5 quai Voltaire, 75007 Paris.
The new vintages of Compostelle, the superb cuvee La Mourvache,

the famous Francis Boulard, from the champagne house Raymond Boulard,

Mas Neuf has welcome for the past 30 months an additional
skill. Louis Mitjavile, Winemaker and land owner of Tertre Roteboeuf
(St-Emilion) and Roc de Cambes (Côtes de Bourg) has helped along
the process of creating this new cuvee, with this joint venture with
Luc Baudet.
The few priviledged who have discovered this blend (Grenache,
Cabernet, Merlot) have been enthusiastic, pinpointing the purity and
power of this new style of wine.

Smoked salmon, Pumpkin, lime &

Very nice flavour balance between the raifort & smoked salmon. |
potimarron cream, with sauteed cubes of home made spiced cake.
Vegetables "farcis" (stuffed), a pan fried big prawn
with a touch of liquorice
Costières de Nîmes Compostelle blanc 2001 (grenache blanc-roussanne)
In the plate:
a small potatoe stuffed with wild mushroom (cepe) and walnut ;
Tomato stuffed with courgettes & mint;
A "panais" stuffed with aubergine and sage ;
A white mushroom stuffed with red cabbage and reinette apple;
The wine, is on a very pure profile, neither too acidic nor
heavy. Of all flavour profiles, the best remains the stuffed potatoe which
reveals the nutty flavour profile of the wine.
Rouget stuffed with tiny Provence vegetable cubes with pesto
& parmeggiano sauce, oursin sauce in the plate.
Vin de Pays d’Oc blanc 2001 (chardonnay-viognier)
This very exuberant wine fits very well with the iodic feeling of the oursin
sauce.
Wild pigeon "en salmis", stuffed leg, and a charlotte
of salsifis with caramelized "forgotten" vegetables.
Costières de Nîmes Compostelle rouge 2001
The pigeon is grilled, the leg is stuffed with foie gras.
The wine is quite open on the nose, and there is an overall good fit with
the dish although the sauce may seem a bit toopowerful compared to the wine.
On a blackcurrant macaron, a pear rosace poached in a red spiced
wine, grittine ice cream, and a biscuit with Sarawak pepper.
Vin de Pays d’Oc rouge Syrah 2001
This is the best surprise of the evening ,as this powerful &
fresh Syrah goes very well with this desert, very light in sugar, where the
pepper plays a central role.
